I'm generally not a fan of the rest of Bazz Luhrman's oeuvre, but I love his first movie, Strictly Ballroom (1992).

I hasten to add to Mark's offering that despite the French poster, The Secret of Roan Inish is not French!

Charming lesser-known Sayles film.

Dazed And Confused (1993) was an absolute classic. Even though it came out in the 90s, it very accurately portrayed me teen years in the 80s. A much more realistic movie than other teen party flicks of the era, like Fast Times At Ridgemont High (which I still love too).

I appreciate the recommendations ppl are giving..

I liked 'Dazed and Confused' a lot. Another nostalgic party movie from the 90s, that kinda flew under the radar, was 'the Stoned Age'.
It recreates a clique of stoners, set a little later than 'Dazed..', probably real early '80s.. but basically features the same kind of nostalgic laughs & memories. I think it was straight to video circa 1993-1994..

I remember that movie "The Stoned Age". Pretty good and featured my fav band Blue Oyster Cult. At the end where two guys were selling Tshirts, that was Buck Dharma and Eric Bloom, the guitarist and the lead singer of BOC.

As much as I like the movie, it is a cult favorite that grew legs on DVD rather than in theaters so I can't say it is under-appreciated.

I would say Vegas Vacation is a true under-rated and under-appreciated movie from the 90's.
