What is your favorite John Hughes movie?

Mine is 16 candles. Hilarious, Anthony Michael Hall was at the top of his game there.

While Ferris Bueller's Day Off was terrific humor, as someone who came of age in the 1980s (I graduated high school in 1987), there's something very real about The Breakfast Club. I knew many examples of the students in that film. For someone born in 1950, John Hughes was very dialed-in to the vibe of a 1980s Middle America high school.

I didn't realize he made all those movies. He was such a great part of what made the 80's special. My personal favorite is Ferris Bueller's Day Off.

Yes, he either directed, produced or wrote or did all 3 on many movies. I didn't know he had also done Home Alone. The 80's was such a great era, imo, in terms of music and movies. My daughter just turned 13 and we let her watch Ferris Bueller a few weeks ago. She loved it!

Right, I forgot about Home Alone. I remember seeing a documentary just before he died, where these two college students tried to find him for an interview but Hughes wasn't having any of it. He just sent a thank you note. That was all.

PLANES, TRAINS, AND AUTOMOBILES. Although SHE'S HAVING A BABY runs a real close second, and FERRIS BUELLER'S DAY OFF trails very close behind.

I've actually never seen PRETTY IN PINK. Even in the '80s, I got kind of tired of the "Molly Ringwald whining" movies. 16 CANDLES is great largely because of the secondary characters. I found the main character in that movie intensely unlikeable.
