Pleasantville has some great humor, but it is definitely not a comedy. It's a drama, and a very clever one. Give it a try.

You might like Edward Scissorhands. It's quirky but very evocative of the period. It reminded me a lot of childhood memories.

Yeah, I'd say it's a must-watch for 80s cult movie fans.

For more 80s movies set in the 50s, there's Clue? (the best board-game-to-movie adaptation ever), and Little Shop of Horrors.

Also, The Tree of Life? Not the Big Bang, primordial, dinosaur part, of course.

The one made in 1960 is much better than the one made in 1986.
