Edward Scissorhands
Chocolat
Pirates II
Sweeney Todd

Johnny Depp is just so... Johnny Depp. It's hard to imagine that it's the same actor in Finding Neverland, Pirates, and Willy Wonka!

My favorites:
Finding Neverland (gut wrenching... I cry and cry and cry)
Benny and Joon (only Johnny Depp could pull off this role)
Edward Scissorhands (classic)
Once Upon a Time in Mexico (not necessarily a GOOD movie, but one of my favorites nevertheless)

All vastly different characters.

Don Juan DeMarco is one of my favorites, with Benny and Joon a close runner-up. I loved Finding Neverland, too.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was a huge disappointment. The only time the team of Johnny Depp and Tim Burton has let me down.

He's hardly in Chocolat, but when he's there, I melt.
Loved him in Benny and Joon.

One of my absolute favorites is What's Eating Gilbert Grape.
DiCaprio got all the attention (and he certainly was excellent) but I always thought that Depp had the much more difficult role.

Anyone out there old enough to remember Depp on TV in 21 Jump Street?
Check this clip out, it has Brad Pitt in it.

"Yeah, I've been to jail"

Johnny Depp is an excellent character actor!

I especially liked his performance in Donnie Brasco

Benny and Joon
Finding Neverland
Edward Scissorhands
What's eating Gilbert Grape ?
Chocolat
Ed Wood
Ils se marrierent et eurent beaucoup d'enfants ( French movie " happily ever after " in English I think ? )
Sleepy Hollow

Let's face it he is a wonderful actor, rather charmingly self deprecating and has an intelligence which somehow transpires through all his work.
I hated "from hell" but it wasn't due to his acting more to an appalling script and IMO the only thing which salvaged the Pirates... movies is his wonderfully camp performance.

Nice selection, Mikey.
I think this movie, about ten years old, might have been the turning point, when Depp began to be taken a bit more seriously.

I thought of Michael Jackson watching his performance in this.

Same for Dead Man .. rent immediately

He's rumored to be in a couple of Sin City sequels.
