This is such an odd thread.
I remember it was, oh, about 6 years ago when the destruction of any cities in the movies was suddenly very controversial. Even retrospectively.
After the towers fell, I remember hearing about a screening of Fight Club being cancelled at some theater because people were too upset by the final scene in which 2 characters watch all the buildings in their city fall down.
The times they are a-changin'.

I know Tokyo has also gotten its fair share, but let us know what other city in the U.S. would be cool to see destroyed in a movie and explain why.
My pick would be San Francisco. It's got the Transamerica Pyramid building, and the Golden Gate and Bay Bridges that any monster would love to play with and mangle. The hills and bay would also provide a great background and hiding places. And can't you just picture the monster picking up the trolleys and flinging them around? Plus, Godzilla could make it to SF way easier than to NY. Those victorian houses would be so pretty to stomp on and what about a shot of the monster rolling down Lombard street? Of course you would have the people in Chinatown screaming and running around as an homage to Godzilla. Everyone would think it was an earthquake at first. The possibilities are endless!

You are totally bizarre, and your post had me laughing for a good five minutes. I like you already! and I had an image of the monster tripping and rolling down Lombard! lol
I think they just destroy what's recognizable to foreign movie viewers. Memphis may look distinct to us in the States but in Spain they would be like "what the hell's that pyramid?!" and you'll also never hear anyone getting upset watching a movie going "they destroyed Terre Haute!" (unless you've seen Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid, where Carl Reiner DID destroy Terre Haute. lol)
And personally I'd get great satisfaction at watching Sioux City destroyed in a movie, only because it's the land of my childhood and I'd probably have relatives as extras. lol

Northwestern United States!
I personally have 3 votes. Seattle, Washington; Spokane, Washington; & Portland, Oregon. I suppose you're wondering why. First of all, there is very few movies where you see these cities, except if they are filmed there. Seattle's reason it that it has the Space Needle. I could just see a monster climbing it or a wave overtaking the entire city Spokane's reason is simple. It is where I grew up There isn't much there except my family Not that I don't love my family to death, it just falls into the catigory of Northwestern United States. Porland's reaon is also simple. It seems like a peaceful city where almost nothing happens. It's nickname is the Rose City. To me, that represents peace & love. Now to see a city like Portland be destroyed would be simply cool.

You'd also wind up killing a bunch of rich Chicago kids if you destroyed South Bend. If the Monster were to take a few steps northwest into Ann Arbor, say bye bye to all those rich New York kiddos.
