It would have to be "48 Hours".....though admittedly, that movie was more for the direction and the soundtrack than its stars.
I remember sitting in the theater and seeing that opening, with that photography, that beat and thinking what a great flick this was going to be. First time through, the carrying action, made it wonderful to the end in an 80's movie.
But each time I go back and watch the flick, am painfully reminded that Murphy and Nolte are the stars of the flick, that they have a major role in the movement of the story, well it just rather mars the flick. The first time through, the action of the previous scene rather buries the comedy those two had to put into it.
To me, it's probably his best flick because he was in it.........but it would probably be better if neither he nor Nolte were in it.
