It was surprising the learn that back before the mid-sixties in the UK homosexuality was illegal. The movie was during WWII about Alan Turing, a mathematical genius who cracked the Nazi code Enigma. It was learned that he was gay and he was given the choice of going to prison or being treated with female hormones which would destroy his sexuality. The name of the movie is, "Imitation Game." His being gay wasn't a huge part of the story and is brought out more towards the end.

According to this article in The Guardian, homosexuality was not decriminalized until l967.

In the early 60s it was considered a felony in the US. It was still illegal in a lot of the US prior to 2003 when 14 states had sodomy laws before they were invalidated by the Supreme court.

To be accurate, homosexuality has never been illegal in the U.S., as far as I know. Only certain BEHAVIORS that homosexuals sometimes do are illegal. But heterosexuals do those behaviors, as well.

Some businesses and the military had policies where they would not accept homosexuals, but it wasn't illegal.

Yes, as I said in my post it falls under Sodomy laws. Just as it did in the UK. Alan Turning was prosecuted under a law that prohibited "gross indecency" between two males.
