Paths of Glory for sure. Classic anti war theme that stands the test of time. You could substitute France for Korea, Vietnam, Iraq or Afghanistan and it would still ring true. Ordinary people thrown into a conflict by ignorant inept leaders.

I like the last three. I picked the Shining because I think that is point in time when his movies started to become great. The last three are equally great in my opinion:

The Shining
Full Metal Jacket
Eyes Wide Shut

[quote=LarkBea;40575844]I love all of his movies, but Dr. Strangelove would have to come in first,

Maybe top five. but personally. I consider this a PETER SELLERS movie..........

Such a talented director. I've always loved Kubrick....as others have pointed out one thing that jumps out is how different all his films are. I have to admit I haven't seen all his movies. I haven't seen Eyes Wide Shut and really have no desire to. I ended up voting for 2001 mostly because I remember how different it was and how I left the theater wanting to see it again knowing I'd get something else out of it. The Shining is a fantastic movie and would probably be my No. 2 - as an earlier poster said it rates not just as a top Kubrick movie but a top suspense movie of all time. Perhaps Clockwork Orange and Dr. Strangelove ties after that. But boy is it hard!

Close call between The Shining and 2001, both great films, but ultimately, A Clockwork Orange wins. It's a majestic take on a profound book. Nominated for four Academy Awards. Elevated Malcom McDowell to star status. The soundtrack alone is worth the price of admission. I saw it as a teen, and it was my introduction to Beethoven, with whom I now have a life-long love affair.

From start to finish, just one of the most moving, insightful and captivating movies ever made. Droogies, you gotta watch it if you've never seen it.

THE SHINING is over-rated. It's a masterful mood piece, but as a story, it's pretty hollow.

I think EYES WIDE SHUT is actually under-rated, though certainly not his best movie.

Gotta go with 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY.

A Clockwork Orange is the one I return to more often than any other project of his. As AFtrEFkt says, there's "nothing else like it."

Which one is the best of the 7 (I've seen) of the 10.....A Clockwork Orange or 2001.
