I know that there's always poetic license in making a book into a movie, but I didn't think Bryson was "old" when he went on the hike--he was more like in his 40s. I guess when you can get Redford to play you, you go with that.
Looks great! 2 great actors too. Like Into the wild or one of the many road movies like Easy rider. For some reason I have no doubt Redford and Nolte could really accomplish this in real life too.

I agree, he's 63 now and the book was published in 1998 so he was 47 when it was published.
Anyway...the movie was very good. My husband, who loves the book complained about some of his favorite parts of the book not making it to the movie but overall we though it was pretty good.
Just saw the movie and LOVED IT! One of the best I have seen and I suggest it. Mostly funny and true life stuff. A few sad moments of course, but, go see it!
As a nearly old guy I was very leary about another "old farts are good for slapstick humor" movie. I enjoyed the book and while there is some humor there, its pretty dry and subdued. From what i'm reading in this thread maybe I shouldn't judge this book by its cover...I mean ..trailer.
