You realize that the Avengers cease to exist once the team is split and fighting each other, right? And that the plot revolves around the concept of authoritarian control vs free will?
Yes and no, there have been Avengers, Mighty Avengers, West Coast Avengers and Uncanny Avengers all at various times with people who left one team and joined another. Just as there has been JLA, JLE and JLI at various times. This is just the first time we see the multiple teams on screen.

Those are all from the comics, not the movies, and a group of costumed people gathered together doesn't just automatically become a new Avengers team. Especially if two such groups are fighting each other and fighting to either imprison or be free from the other.

Captain America had the Secret Avengers to Iron Man's Avengers during the real Civil War...

But they werent the Avengers. Iron Man was trying to send superheroes to the negative zone and all kinds of other amoral crap, and Cap was leading a rebellion against the government and fellow superheroes. Hell, Iron Man's "Avengers" included super villains.
But they're not the Avengers in this movie. If Civil War counts as an Avengers movie then Batman v Superman should be called Justice League. All but 1 of the members of the League are in that movie.
Agreed.
Look at it this way: If you're at a concert and Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, and Charlie Watts step on the stage, your first thought is going to be, "The Rolling Stones!"
Granted, your second thought might be, "Where are the rest?" But that doesn't invalidate the first thought.

BVS should have been Justice League. But even though they're not together as the Avengers, the movie still has most of the Avengers in it. It's literally "what would happen if the Avengers turned on each other." So they're not actually the team of Avengers in the film, but it's still about the Avengers, get it?

But it's not about the Avengers. It's about the individuals. Saying "this should have been called Avengers 2.5" ow whatever is silly and if that's what people are complaining about they should probably get lives.
It's not silly. Civil War should be an Avengers movie. Civil War wasn't spurred by the bromance between Cap and Bucky.
