I am fairly sure that being this close Disney will want the title of the first film to make a billion dollars domestically.
STW#7 is at $812m @24 days for USA and Canada. Jurassic World earned 14.68% additional revenue after 24 days, implying STW#7 will end up at $951.7m . But I think that Disney will run promotions to encourage people to see it a second time to try and push it past a BILLION dollars domestic. Estimates are that it has sold 94 million tickets so far, so it is debatable who is left who wants to see this film.

It will have to earn another $billion worldwide to push past Avatar. Avatar earned 73% of its box office from foreign theaters, so it is difficult to believe that Star Wars will achieve the massive popularity in foreign countries (other than the Britain) that will unseat Avatar.

AVATAR --- COUNTRY - STAR WARS FORCE AWAKENS
$150,025,197 United Kingdom $152,000,000
$175,615,305 France $72,400,000
$171,990,531 Japan $59,700,000
$162,333,962 Germany $88,000,000
$204,129,854 China $53,000,000 (JUST OPENED)

Force Awakens stands at 812m right now, might see a boost next weekend with MLK but that's it. I don't see it being a billion in the U.S.

I've seen it three times, might see it again in IMAX but that is if I see Joy too... Far too many movies out that I want to see honestly.

Its a good movie. Its a fun movie. Its a big budget movie. Its a family movie. It has a huge fun base.

Still should not be making this much money. On a scale of 1-10, I'd be hard pressed to give it more than an 8+.

People just love the Star Wars concept. It is a huge escape from reality.

I could spend a lot of time pointing out flaws....but that is no fun.

It will be difficult to sell over 20 million more tickets, especially since roughly 95 million tickets have been sold in the first 25 days.

But it is amazing to think that Titanic had sold only $200 million in tickets on day 25, and went on to a total gross of $600 million. Titanic's single biggest ticket sale day was actually day 58 (Valentine's Day). But Christmas 1997 is another era in film promotion. It was around the time that Twister was the first feature film released on DVD.

To make it to a billion dollars Disney will have to encourage a lot of second time movie goers. I just believe that Disney will really want the title, and it may be five years before anyone gets close.

Many have indeed seen it twice already. Some that I know have seen it some five times.

The Force Awakens also has the potential of repeated theater releases, something Disney does.

It can but that is rare. I think Monsters Inc. was the last to have that due to bad sales on its 3-D re-release. That movie actually tanked several Disney and Pixar re-release namely The Little Mermaid. The issue is the box office is a much different place now.
