The academy hopes to address critisisms with the three new seats on the board of governors, a revisal in membership requirement and a new diversity goal.

Celebrities continue to speak out in support of-and against-the proposed Oscar boycott over a lack of diversity in the nominees.

I would not want to be nominated or win an award for the sole purpose of my skin color.

I feel sorry for all the black actors in Hollywood. If you boycott the Oscars, you might get ostracized by the Academy. If you don't boycott, you might get ostracized by the black community. No winning move.

Maybe they shouldn't have started all this to begin with. There have been black actors/actresses/movies nominated or won in years past. The fact that none cut the mustard went over some heads.
The ones who don't agree with the whiners should have spoken out and said so. I know Ice Cube did...

I am sure we could pile up a list of brown/asian people who didn't get any recognition. Why are they not whining?

I hope nobody is flattering themselves. The board of governors meets every year to discuss possible changes to the Academy. Last year for example, they had considered changing the number of best picture nominees to either exactly 10 or back to just 5 as was originally the case. The point being that this year's changes are just part of the annual board of governors discussions, and not the direct result of a fricking Twitter hashtag. In fact, the new changes would affect elderly members of the Academy more than anything else.
