I heard this Mummy film is Tom Cruise's biggest hit ever overseas.

Action Tom seems to play better overseas than domestically. I liked Jerry Maguire Tom.

Yes, he's one of the best at playing emotional characters like Jerry Maguire.
I liked Born On The Fourth Of July and Magnolia.
He can contend for Oscars with those emotional type of roles.

Top Gun 2 should do well overseas and domestically, its action and also very American.

Looks like The Mummy tripped over its own bandages at the box office this weekend.

Don't know the man - but I like his products. That said - no actor out there is really batting 1000. Especially one that has had a lengthy a career as Cruise.

That said - The Mummy sucked. Maybe it's my lack of understanding - but to me, The Mummy should be about Egypt, deserts, and biblical prophesies. This was more 28 days later than The Mummy.

Agreed. JC's The Thing was superb.

Gone In 60 Seconds.
The remake with Angelina Jolie was simply awful.

Worst movie I have seen in a long, long time. Every single aspect of this movie was bad, it didn't have a single redeaming quality besides the two leading ladies being pretty darned attractive. Geez what a pile this was.

The movie is officially a failure: ‘The Mummy’: Tom Cruise Movie Flop Will Lose $95M: Box Office | Deadline

So in regard to Universal's planned "Dark Universe" franchise, we have:

DRACULA UNTOLD was so poorly received that Universal scrapped plans to have it be the launch of their monsterverse. That's strike one.

THE MUMMY is bombing too, despite having the world's biggest movie star. That's strike two.

Will they swing again, or is it back to the bench?

I think they should have made the Dark Universe an animated universe, and it should have a comedic tone suited to children.
That's a way to make money.
