I understand that Rogue One is not a continuation of TFA but it takes place before A New Hope and is a stand alone movie in the Star Wars franchise.

Yeah. In a society with anti-gravity, I never understood the reason behind walking vehicles of any sort. Intimidation factor maybe?

But Donnie Yen as a space samurai? That alone sold my admission ticket.

Correct - it takes places before A New Hope and supposedly tells the story of how the Rebel Alliance obtained the plans to the original Death Star. Those plans that Princess Leia had at the beginning of A New Hope that she put into R2D2.

Not sure where in the timeline it will be in relation to the young Han Solo movie, the Boba Fett movie or the Obi-Wan Kenobi movie?

That should have been Disneys main agenda, Stand alone films and animated series. Do some Empire films, do some Republic films, films, do some films based in different timelines. Its so many things Disney could have done instead of an attempt of sequel to a series that was complete with Palpatines death. I didnt see the new disney movie and I dont know if I will see this one. Too much OT feel for me.

Qui Gon was dead before the Clone Wars started.
