On a recent Collider Movie Talk, it was talked about that the reshoots were already planned and are only happening so late due to the actor's schedules. The reshoots seem not to be the battles but character scenes. Also Tony Gilroy whom Garrett Edwards previously worked with on Godzilla (2014) for re-scripting.
Hey, I didn't write the article.
The part that can't not be true: the guys writing checks aren't happy with Gareth's rough cut. If they're doing reshoots for the next 60 or so days, that's a lot of ground they're covering. They're probably adding a young Jar Jar.
"The reshoots were already planned" is a nice spin in the wake of all the flak Suicide Squad took for its recent reshoots, though.
SW fans like me would like a little more maturity in at least some of the SW movies or TV shows.
That's a given, but seeing how they made sure everyone was in their happy (or not-so-bad) place by the end of Civil War, I think they're mostly interested in $$$.

I'm not blaming you, it is just coming out that those sources aren't exactly right. The fact is just about every movie will do re-shoots, you just have one a lot of clickbait websites today and a lot more access to the dirt sheets. Of course this could be spin but unlike Fantastic Four, there is spin to the allegations of cutting the legs off Josh Trank.
They have that Rebels show (and there is also novelization) which I assume is part of canon.
Will they be referenced, I wonder?
It's all way better when everything ties together.
And, if we're not doing Thrawn (which would have been way better than the garbage sold us in TFA), why is there a new Thrawn book coming out next year?
What's the point of that?

Yes, "Star Wars: Rebels" is canon and Thrawn will make his appearance in Rebels season three in a few weeks. I wouldn't be surprised to see one or two of the Rogue characters make a quick early appearance in Rebels before the movie debuts (for that matter, they may already have).
A lot of people don't understand what Disney is doing with the animated series. Disney is creating an entirely new bullpen of Star Wars characters and storylines for the post-Millennial generation.
I didn't realize this until a few weeks ago on a bus I listened to two elementary school children filling an adult in on "Star Wars"--a good ten minutes of discussion without ever mentioning the Skywalker saga characters. Disney is using the animations to plant for the future.
And they do fill in some character storylines. For instance, in Clone Wars, Anakin Skywalker works a mission with a young Lieutenant Tarkin--who tells him he's too good to allow himself to be limited by the Jedi Council. That connects to Admiral Tarkin calling Darth Vader, "My old friend" in A New Hope.

e.
So they're going to try to make Thrawn canon? But not Jade?
Isn't it too late now that TFA has nothing to do with Thrawn?
Nor do any of the 'prequel' novels leading up to TFA.
