Any studio that greenlights more FF movies is going to want a franchise, not a movie. Which means they are thinking in terms of a 3-4 movie commitment from actors, which entails 10-15 years of work. As much as I applaud the idea of casting actual adults rather than teens and twentysomethings, keep in mind that if you cast an actor in his or her mid forties for the first movie and it's a huge hit, he or she is going to be pushing sixty by the time the last movie rolls around.
Given the nature of the FF, the movies ought to be animated, not live action. Three live-action attempts have not worked. You know what they say about trying the same thing over and over and expecting different results. Make the FF a big animated movie. Based on voice talent, I would cast:
Reed Richards --- Bryan Cranston
Susan Storm --- Linda Hamilton
Johnny Storm --- No clue
Benjamin Grimm --- Ron Perlman (I would donate body parts to make this happen)
Victor von Doom --- Peter Dinklage
Mole Man --- Weird Al Yankovic
Galactus --- Arnold Schwarzennegger
Silver Surfer --- Idris Elba
Interesting post, Mark, but remember that Robert Downey Jr was 43 when "Iron Man" came out in 2008 and The Avengers 3 and 4 are set to come out in 2018 and 2019 when Downey will be 53 and 54, respectively.
Also, thinking about the Reed Richards character, well, Reed was always 'older' in the comic books, therefore, if Jeffrey Dean Morgan did play him, he would be in his early 60s in ten years, and any more, a lot of male actors such as Kevin Costner, Denzel Washington, and Liam Neeson have been making action movies in their late 50s and early 60s in recent years.
Plus, Charlize Theron is young enough where she could play someone who is ten years younger. And she and her younger brother Johnny could have a ten year age difference.
But as far as an animated version of the FF, well, I recently read somewhere that the FF is/was considered the first family of Marvel(they were always my favorite comic book growing up), and I just think that they deserve a quality live version movie. Also, I would like to see them interact with the other live action movie characters.
Plus, one crossover FF comic book story from the 60s that I remember is a story about an (alien?) character called "Him" who started out in a cocoon in the FF comics. Well, the cocoon hatched in the Thor comic books and this really powerful and good looking god-like golden colored creature with gold hair hatched from the cocoon and happened to fall in love with Jane Foster and kidnaps her.(Okay, I know that I am geeking out here, but bear with me. ) Well, this is the comic book where Thor goes berserk and he savagely beats the hell out of Him(I mean really bad and Thor's behavior was uncharacteristic of him), and I would have to say that that was probably one of my favorite Thor comic books stories and crossover stories, and I wouldn't mind seeing that story via a live version of Thor and The Fantastic Four on the big screen...or even on the small screen.
Victor von Doom --- Peter Dinklage
Mole Man --- Weird Al Yankovic
Galactus --- Arnold Schwarzennegger
Silver Surfer --- Idris Elba
Mark, I'm shaking my head.
Ahnuld as Galactus? That's how you get people to laugh at a character that must be taken rather seriously, his only being the devourer of worlds (what his business card reads).
Dinklage as Doom? No. Not that Dinklage has a bad voice. He doesn't. It simply doesn't fit Doctor Doom.
Leave Marvel's first family be. 4 films, 3 were not a success and one never got released. (There was one from 1994)
Fantastic Four does not work great on the silver screen. It is what it is.
How about Alpha Flight or Moon knight or ROM getting some recognition? Many films can be made for the Marvel family.

I think the two from a few years ago were mildly successful. Good? No. They weren't good. But they weren't money losers.

I think it may be that they don't work live action. It is a story more suited to animation. Is there any way to show Mr. Fantastic's super power without it looking inherently creepy or goofy? Not in live action. But it works in animation.
Moon Knight is coming to Netflix. I'm not sure if Marvel has the rights to ROM.
Really exited to hear Moon Knight is getting a series. Thanks for that I had no idea.
ROM was really obscure also. Read a few articles that said Blade and Ghost Rider are being rebooted too.
