I know after the last trilogy and the FOX series I want to nuke Gotham City myself

GOTHAM is a mess. I tried to like it and couldn't. There are aspects of greatness to it, but the series as a whole is just a mess.
Which pretty well sums up my reaction to the last Nolan film. A mess.
Batman V. Superman proved that the general audience don't like dark comic book movies.
Depends on the character, I think. A dark Batman seems acceptable, but I don't think they are going to get away with dark supreme-heroes. Batman is, after all, just human, ultimately "just a slob like one of us."
But a Superman who doesn't have an absolutely rigid "no kill" ethic can't make the kind of story that can continue through multiple movies for the general audience.

I have about 20 episodes of Gotham waiting on my DVR. I got frustrated with them after they killed off Jerome--who was clearly being represented to be the nacent Joker. I don't mind twists, but I resent that level of disrespect to their audience.
But a Superman who doesn't have an absolutely rigid "no kill" ethic can't make the kind of story that can continue through multiple movies for the general audience.
He only killed Zod out of desperation. I don't think we're going to see Superkiller (he HAS killed in the comics, though, on several occasions). Bear in mind, that was his inaugural battle against like-powered foes.
The 182-minute cut of BvS will likely satisfy more people because we're going to get more dialogue from Cavill, especially the scene where Clark Kent visits GCPD to get information on "the Bat-vigilante."
I also hope it restores the scene where Superman attempts to find his mother, but is overwhelmed by myriad cries of help throughout the city.

The first season was great, but I have to play catch-up big time.

I believe all of the problems intrinsic to TDKR are due to Nolan's steadfastness to put the period at the end of his trilogy's proverbial sentence. I never bought the "8 years of seclusion" stuff, for starters. Even if Bruce Wayne wasn't active as Batman, he wouldn't hole himself up in his manse for that length of time.
