I liked it too. But I had hoped to love it, and I just didn't. The movie concentrated on the wrong characters. Cranston and Watanabe were riveting. But the movie focused on the young pretty people, who were young and pretty but not much else.

Gone are the days when actual adults could still be heroes in movies. RIP Brody, Hooper, and Quint.

Looks like we're getting that with this movie.

So this movie is apparently a blatant rip-off of APOCALYPSE NOW. Not that this is necessarily a bad thing. If you're going to steal, then steal from the best.

Are you getting the rip-off vibe because of John C. Reilly's character? Or the tone of the trailer(s)? It's set in the '70s, so there is that 'Nam-era war movie vibe. I like everything about it so far...except Reilly. They revealed too many monsters in the trailer, but then, that's how you would've cut a monster movie trailer way back when, too! You show the monsters to get the kids excited. It definitely worked for me!

The shot of the helicopters against the rising sun is right out of APOCALYPSE NOW. And yes, Reilly is blatantly channeling Dennis Hopper. Sam Jackson as Chief Forrest. And Kong himself standing in for Brando.

Don't get me wrong. It looks like great fun. I'm just surprised that they would so unashamedly rip off APOCALYPSE NOW.

Yeah, it is. I thought you meant thematically. But as you say, may as well borrow from Grade 'A' Prime, Stamped 'Guaranteed'!

Marketing really missed an opportunity on this one. This movie really should be named APOCALYPSE KONG!

Then when the King fights Godzilla in the sequel, we could have GOODMONSTAHS.

Then in the next sequel, monsters who hate each other have to team up to take down a corrupt system. TOKYO CONFIDENTIAL.

Don't forget the porno parody: KONG DONG!
