Yup. The animation is REALLY, REALLY, I mean REALLY horrible. Like some of the worst I have ever seen. But the writing wasn't half-bad. They went back to the book and made an actual Planet of the Apes rather than a Sizeable Village of the Apes that the movies were stuck in.

And I'll shut up about Planet of the Apes now. Back to Ben-Hur. Which I have no intention of seeing. Even if Morgan Freeman does look rather cool in dreds.

Maybe the next time you see him, he'll be having a pina colada at Trader Vic's.

The Bogart/Astor version of "The Maltese Falcon" was the third movie version of the story.

Not to bring up BOOKS or anything, but I've read (or tried to read) the book by Lew Wallace, published in 1880. It was incredibly popular in it's day.

I like books from that period, but Ben Hur was SO hard to get through that I've always found it hard to believe that it was so popular and sold so many copies. My bet is that it was a "Christian" book, so lots of people bought it for that reason but never read it . You can pretty easily find a copy of the book in junk shops and antique stores even today.

Stories evolve. Ben Hur was a book, then a stage play (with the horses running on treadmills), then the silent movie, then the one with Heston. Why not have another version?

Besides, Yakima Canutt used trip wires on the horses in the movie version you all love, so I hate that version for that reason alone.

Jack Huston is gorgeous, which alone justifies the new film version of Ben Hur.

He does. He can play wise men, comedic roles and tough guy roles even. Man can do it all. Why was he never cast in any of the Star Wars films?

I think he was still busy on The Electric Company back then.

True story: For the first 7 years of my life, I thought Dracula was black. Thank you, Morgan Freeman.

I had to look this up to find out what you meant. I never heard of the Electric Company, I may be a bit younger as I watched Reading Rainbow with LeVar Burton as one of my main shows.
