I wouldn't say that. Not many movies make me laugh out loud. A decent showing in my top 10 for 2013:
01 Fill the Void
02 The Wolf of Wall Street
03 Nebraska
04 A Touch of Sin
05 Blue Jasmine
06 Blue is the Warmest Color
07 Before Midnight
08 Francis Ha
09 Upstream Color
10 All is Lost
I like Scorcese's work indeed Mean Streets, Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, Goodfellas, Casino, The Departed are all great films.
In terms of The Wolf of Wall Street', yes it was entertaining to an extent but the film was a distortion of the book and the book itself was a distortion of reality.
Furthermore there is nothing smart, clever or sophisticated or even funny about 'Boiler Room Fraud', it's the type of fraud perpertrated by Fraudsters the world over, usually by individuals that change addresses and company names every few weeks or months, as the police reguarly close down such operations at an early stage.
I just couldn't help thinking how poor the US Authorities must have been in allowing Stratton Oakmont to operate for 7 years, thus allowing them to rip off hundreds of millions from gullible members of the public, indeed some people lost everything.
The film also potrays Jordan Belfort as a success, he's not, he's been convicted of fraud and lost everything and took a lot of peoples life savings along the way, and if anything he should have received a longer jail sentence.
