Deadpool (2016) - Box Office Mojo
I guess I'm showing my age. I managed to sit through Deadpool. Barely. I don't see the appeal. It's like it was written by a 13 year old whose sole experience of sex was through online porn.

I agree with you, but my point had to do with the movie's overall reception and sales. Fox couldn't hit the green light buzzer on the sequel fast enough if they built a time machine.

They had the same tentative plans they did with the Fantastic Four sequel. DC even had one with the Ryan Reynolds Green Lantern that would have included a Flash mid/end-credit scene.

Who knows?
Fox has only three options: (a) sell it back (b) lose them by not meeting the conditions of the licensing deals (c) partner with Disney

Each option is likely if reception and revenue remains dismal

Fox's X-films certainly have not be "dismal" in terms of either reception or revenue. The story is just seeming kinda tired to me, like they've done all they can do without a major change in direction.

I think that the appeal was that in spite of everything offensive that was going on in Deadpool, the heart of the movie was an old fashioned love story. And which is why much of the advertising had Deadpool's hands shaped like a heart:

Actually, "love story" has been used for Deadpool a LOT, even by a few critics who loved the movie. It's just not a conventional love story.

Only a generation who can't tell the difference between love and lust would take that even a little seriously.
