I tried watching it last night on DVD. I gave up after three quarters of an hour. Just boring.

It didn't even hit theaters in Spain until Jan 12.

Of course, you could be talking bootleg.

As I said - bland and dull.
Ask yourself this...does everyone need all of those things to be entertained? No.

Sometimes I really enjoy complete cinematic fluff. Some of my favorite movies would never win any awards. I don't overthink the whys or the hows. I just like it. Shouldn't bother anyone.

Of course, cinematic fluff can be completely enjoyable, I agree!

My point was just that, it would be nice if people could distinguish between what they "like" and what is actually "good."

So, in this vein, it irritates me that this is garnering awards as if it's some kind of masterpiece, when everything about it is so shallow and bland.

From what little I've read about Chazelle so far, I see nothing that would indicate he's particularly knowledgeable about classic musicals, either.

Chazelle has said that he was inspired by The Umbrellas of Cherbourg, which isn't quite a traditional, classic musical in itself.
