I saw the film yesterday and thought the story and the acting was very powerful. Like most Nazi films, there was a lot of ugly brutality and slaughter but the story stayed focused on difficult human feelings and moral principles as the main characters dealt with complicated personal stress along with life and death wartime issues. Without giving away too much information, the story ends on a happy note - for a wartime drama. There is the usual quote of killings and Nazi abuses but over all the film depicts courageous and noble actions, IMO. I liked it.

I agree with your review. Last night I finally was able to go see this film and it definitely was powerful. There were a few times people in the audience gasped out loud. I think its important for stories like this to be told to get another glimpse of the war. This took place in Warsaw, Poland and it's tragic what the Jewish people endured as well as the animals who called the zoo home. I really enjoyed watching the Jewish people look out for one another, taking risks just to be kind and caring. Overall, good film 3 stars.
Saw this a couple of weeks ago after having read the book. I thought the movie was well done; The acting was fantastic. Definitely not a feel good story but a very powerful film. The book was actually a lot harder since it had so much more detail.
