It sounds like he’ll be back again: Arnold Schwarzenegger says he’s going to be returning for Terminator 6. The future of the Terminator franchise has been in flux since Terminator Genisys in 2015. The oddly-spelt fifth entry was intended to be the start of a new trilogy, but bombed hard at the domestic box office. Strong performance in China made Paramount think again about canning a sequel, although things were further complicated by the fact series creator James Cameron is set to reclaim the rights in 2019.
The franchise has a cancelled series and two dud films so far. May be better to leave it alone. The third film was already signs of things going downhill.
I think this will be scrapped and the original will get a remake. That seems to be the thing now. Look how many reboots of Spiderman there is.
I keep hearing that, and I can tell you that nothing is further from the truth. Hollywood is filled with writers and directors with lots of ideas, some good and some bad. James Cameron is one of them.
The problem is that studios are not run by filmmakers. They are run by accountants, and the one thing accountants do not like is risk. They only want to finance films that look like they are going to make money. Something new? They have nothing to base it on. That's a risk.
A widespread saying in Hollywood: No one ever got fired for saying no.
But the reason Cameron is doing this is because the studio has fouled up the Terminator storyline so badly. He wants to go in and finish it off properly. Can he? I don't know. Based on his last few movies, I'm a little skeptical.
Don't tell anyone but it is an action film about Rocky (Sylvester Stallone) taking on the Terminator (Arnold Schwarzenegger) for control of Happy Grounds Nursing Home.
