An American immigrants story. You guys are grasping actually trying to say that Superman is not an American icon.
And yes, good catch, he was raised in Kansas but born on Krypton.
Which makes it all the more appropriate to have a non-American play him. He's an immigrant, and will never be a "true" American (at least in his eyes) no matter what he does. So how does it hurt to have a non-American playing the role?
Superman is an illegal immigrant. The President demands he leave immediately. And we're going to build a big bubble over the entire U.S. --- and the Martians are gonna pay for it!

What? That's nonsense. No one is against immigrants especially ones that assimilate like Clark Kent/Superman. And he's really more of a refugee who's planet was blown up. No where to deport him. I find it silly that he can't be seen as a true American. Did you read the article? He was created by two artists who were the sons of immigrants.
This is mind boggling that superman isn't seen as an American icon anymore. Pure silliness

Not nonsense at all. Have you ever read the comics in question? Superman was raised in America, and he thinks of America as his home now, but he is not OF America, and he is painfully aware of that fact. "The last son of Krypton," who has no real home anywhere because his differences set him apart from others no matter how hard he may try to assimilate, is a commonly recurring theme with Superman.
And I don't need to read the article. As a long-time comics fan, I'm extremely familiar with the origin of all of DC's major comics characters (as well as Marvel's).
There were 729 domestic films released last year. You gave me six.
And it's already been pointed out that a film shot in several different nations, post-produced by companies from several different nations with the intention of international release and global revenue is not going to be limited to American actors. That's just silly to expect.
Here is a list of movies that have come our or will come out soon (2017).

That is the typical American immigrant experience of being if two worlds but assimilating and adopting the values of America. How can you be a fan of the comics and the mythos and not get this?

I do get it. What I do not see is why this makes it "wrong" for a non-American to play Superman.

I never said that it was wrong just that I've noticed a trend of foreign especially Brits playing American icons. I was wondering if they would extend the same courtesy with their icons.

Honestly, I don't think they'd care, as long as the American actor who was cast for the part could do a passable British accent. And Hollywood certainly wouldn't as long as the box office take was good!
