10. Akshay Kumar $35.5 million
9. Salman Khan $37 million
8. Shah Rukh Khan $38 million
7. Tom Cruise $43 million
6. Robert Downey Jr. $48 million MARVEL
5. Jackie Chan $49 million
4. Adam Sandler $50.5 million
3. Vin Diesel $54.5 million
2. Dwayne Johnson $65 million
1. Mark Wahlberg $68 million

The biggest money is clearly coming from overseas. Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, and Mark Wahlberg's movies were mediocre hits in USA and Canada but monster hits in China. Three of the top 10 are Bollywood stars. Cruise, Downey and Chan are big stars in the USA but much bigger stars in the foreign market.

Only Adam Sandler is making his big hits in the USA or on Netflix (which has half it's audience overseas). The thing about Adam Sandler movies is they are not the biggest box office draw around the world. They certainly are pretty mediocre films as far as critics are concerned.
His four biggest films by Worldwide boxoffice are:
1 Hotel Transylvania 2 Sony $473.2
2 Hotel Transylvania Sony $358.4
3 Grown Ups Sony $271.4
4 Grown Ups 2 Sony $247.0
5 Pixels Sony $244.9
6 Click SonR $237.7
7 Big Daddy Sony $234.8
8 Just Go With It Sony $214.9

But you don't have to make the biggest films, you just have to have the biggest piece of the pie. Adam Sandler films are completely controlled by him.

From June 1, 2016, to June 1, 2017, before taxes and fees.

They have to be primarily movie actors, but the earnings includes all sources of income like endorsements.

Ellen DeGeneres, earned $77 million over the same time period, but she is not listed as movie actress despite her voice over role in Disney's "Finding Nemo". If she was listed she would best everyone on the actress list for the same period of time.

#10 Amy Adams ($11.5 million)
#8 Cate Blanchett ($12 million)
#8 Julia Roberts ($12 million)
#6 Emma Watson, age 27, ($14 million) is this year's sole newcomer after depositing her paycheck for Beauty and the Beast
#6 Charlize Theron, ( $14 million) who spent five years developing the spy project, Atomic blonde
#5 Mila Kunis, age 34, ($15.5 million)
#4 Melissa McCarthy ($18 million) and
#3 Jennifer Lawrence, age 27, $24 million (she was #1 the previous year when the Hunger Games)
#2 Jennifer Aniston ( $25.5 million) makes most of her money by endorsing the likes of Emirates airlines, Smartwater and Aveeno.
#1 Emma Stone, age 28, Leads With $26 Million

Generally speaking the top female musicians far outearn the top female movie actresses.

So much for gender equity. The #10 male makes nearly $10M more than the #1 female.

#10 male was the lead role. #1 female was a supporting role. There have been many instances where a female lead role made significantly more than many male lead roles, depending on the film budget and box-office of course. It has a lot to do with star power, regardless of gender (look up Julia Roberts salaries during the 90s and Jennifer Lawrence now).

#10 male has 21 more years of experience than #1 female as well

so much for female longevity in film... most of the men are nearly twice as old as the females. They would make more in any industry if they had that much more time in career

Who said there was gender equality?

The men make most of their money because of how those movies play in places like China or India. They are often pretty mediocre movies like Transformers #4, or Fast and Furious #8. But they pull in millions of young men around the world, many of whom speak very little English.

Emma Stone was probably paid percentage points because La La Land had a Production Budget of $30 million and pulled in $445.8 million worldwide.

Emma Watson, will probably make a pretty penny after Beauty and the Beast. Disney is loathe to pay massive amounts of money to stars, but people like Johnny Depp or Robert Downey Jr. they have to pay to get them return. B&B made $1.2 billion in box office revenue worldwide and probably much more than that in books, music, DVDs, costumes, and bric a brac.

Her agents will see that she is paid a fortune for her next Disney film. She is rumoured to have made $60 million for the Harry Potter films, so she is going to lead a charmed life.

The top female musicians simply make much more money than the top female movie stars. So do personalities like Ellen Degeneres. Taylor Swift, Beyonce, Katy Perry are all making a lot more money than Emma Stone.

And where are the high paid female actors with as many years of experience? There are plenty of actresses with the same longevity and star power ... they aren't getting paid the same.

I don't find the movies of Mark Wahlberg to be much hit, except his Ted series. He's not active much in movies. I wonder how he's at the number one. May be because of other producer stuff he does?

Comedies like "Daddy's Home" released Christmas 2015 with Thomas Haden Church, Will Ferrell, and Mark Wahlberg don't have much of a production budget outside of the huge salaries. Wahlberg got the advanced payment for the sequel to "Daddy's Home". Also while the Transformers movies have become old news in USA and Canada, the last sequel made nearly twice as much box office revenue in China. This type of movie is also worth considerable amount of money in toy franchises.

The World's Highest-Paid Actors 2017: Mark Wahlberg Leads With $68 Million
Natalie Robehmed , FORBES STAFF

Mark Wahlberg is this year's highest-paid actor, banking $68 million in our scoring period.

Markie Mark is officially Richie Rich: The former rapper-turned-actor is Hollywood's highest-paid leading man, earning $68 million pretax in our 12 month scoring period.

The Boston native recorded his highest-ever payday thanks to soaring fees for movies such as Transformers: The Last Knight and the forthcoming Daddy's Home 2. The former may have scored a miserable 15% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and the lowest gross of the franchise to date, but Wahlberg need not worry--fixed compensation means he benefits even when movies don't do well.
