Finally saw the movie a couple of days ago.
In my opinion it was a great family oriented Sci Fi movie. It had a lot of action, the visuals were great and the space battles awesome.

Now if I critiqued it as a Star Wars die hard, I'd be pretty disappointed. First off, why do these movies have to have some forced humor/campy /cheese? GOTG2, had it. Thor Ragnarak, had it, as well as several others. The light saber toss, the shoulder flick, Poe rubbing up on BB-8 like it was a dog, corny call to Hux, alien milking and the flying nanny space scene. It seemed like every 14 minutes there had to be some sort of witty dialogue to get a chuckle from the audience. Although, I did like the shoulder flick.

Hux just reminded me of Dr. Evil with his drawn out rants. And hipster Vader wannabe. Oh man... or I should say , oh man/boy. He is no where near menacing like Vader was, he comes across quite laughable and like a pouty spoiled child. I hated the character in TFA and still do. I also don't understand how people think Adam Driver is a good actor... at least in this roll.

I thought Lukes brooding , I'm a failure thing was too drawn out. Obi Wan created one of the worst Dark side followers in the galaxy and he didn't whine about it. He did redeem himself in the end though, and it was badass. I do think Mark Hamill did some of his best acting as Luke in this episode.

I like that Leia had a lot of screen time, much more than I thought she would have. Kind of sad , knowing she is gone.

I can't believe what happened to Snoke. I mean, this dude had the largest ship ever in the Empire/First Order and the first we heard of him was TFA ? Then what happens to him in TLJ and we never really find out anything more about him. Come on.

The whole casino planet , Rose, Finn thing seemed a bet long and unnecessary, all just to introduce the little Force sensitive slave kid (Anakin is that you again ?) , Rose just seemed like a useless character that ended up getting some Rebels killed for a kiss. Finn, seemed like they just didn't know what to do with him in this episode.

I did like a lot of little things though. R2 using the old footage on Luke. Han's dice being given to Leia. The space scenes were awesome. The shear size of the Snokester's ship was so cool, compared to all the Star Destroyers surrounding it. The scene of it's demise was awesome, although it was a shame to waste a snarky Laura Dern's character on it when there was a perfectly annoying robot , BB-8 that I'm sure could pilot the ship, it did a good job of piloting a walker. I always love the scenes with the Falcon, so cool. And the way Luke went out, was cool. He is a true Master now. And Rey was awesome as always, and has to be truly Force sensitive to be as good as she is with it after only a day or two of training. That or Luke was just a slow learner.

It will be interesting where this franchise will go. I do think they need to take a little from how Rogue 1 was written. I think they nailed it with that one. Just the right amounts of humor, grit and darkness.
This movie is definitely more enjoyable if you just go into it for the effects, some humor and all around entertainment. I'm sure I'll watch it again, and I certainly wouldn't talk anyone out of going nor give my Star Wars nerd opinion , unless asked.

Ultimately, Star Wars is no more white than most other movies still are.
I'm just saying if the director would make a point of showing equal diversity on both sides then people who use terms like SJW would have no ammunition.

I, for one, am not going to worry about people complaining about what races muffled voices in masks sound like. Those are not fans or even prospective fans, those are people who are doing nothing but searching for a reason to gripe.

I think the sequels have suffered from somewhat lazy writing. I think they should have gone with something totally new and fresh for the movies villains. Instead they just lazily recycled the empire and created a Palpatine stand-in with Snoke.

I think the bulk of their budget is being spent on CGI experts (which was very well done) and maybe not so much on talented writers.

As I said before, they need to let the Disney animation writers write the movies.

Heck, they probably already have movie storylines in their back pockets.

BTW I was commenting on the Bridge Officers whose faces were shown, not about whether various masked characters sounded white or whatever. There was definitely a disparity in the optics on the two sides.

That's always been the case with Star Wars, from the very beginning. So if they're trying to make a point, it's certainly been consistent.

Some people were outraged when John Boyega was cast as a stormtrooper: "There are no black stormtroopers!"

Can't please some people. Do they want them all white or not?

Anyone else disappointed that there aren't more Force Ghosts in the new trilogy? I hope Luke and Obi-Wan can have a reunion in the next one. I'd rather watch them than Poe, Finn or any of the other new characters.
