Anyone seen it or planning to?

I just got back from seeing it tonight. I actually rather enjoyed it. It's not a cinematic masterpiece by any stretch, but it's fun to watch and keeps a pretty good pace. (And I adore Hugh Jackman!) What bothers me is that it's a period piece with modern music. That creates a pretty significant and distracting disconnect for me. I'm curious what others think.

I like Hugh Jackman, but don't like the idea of supporting a movie about one of the men that started the circus using animals for entertainment.

With that said sometimes it can be interesting to see how industries were started so I may pick it up when it gets to the library. And regarding Barnum and Bailey were they both in agreement early on to use animals?

I hope you don't own pets.

I'll pass on this movie. I have a multitude of other reasons to not support anything related to P.T. Barnum.

.
Your post makes zero sense, saving a pet from an animal shelter and giving it a loving home for life is beneficial to an animal. It has nothing to do with what animals go thru in the circus.

Being in the time frame they are talking about animals were thought of differently .Animals were just animals to some people . I know some older people who never thought much about animals having feelings . Different time period and I think that the movie will be a winner in some peoples opinion and other people will not see it .I have heard it was good from a few friends and a few others thought it was not so good with the modern music and supposedly being set in a different time period.

I do think the timing is terrible with all of the backlash against circuses and especially against Ringling Brothers

Also you cannot really have a discussion about this movie without mentioning what the circus was all about, which is exploiting animals.

I don't do the circus thing because of the abuse of animals and don't plan on watching the movie either. With that said...I LOVE Hugh Jackman!!
