Any thoughts on what may be Daniel Day Lewis' last movie? Is it too much of a girly period piece movie or does it have enough substance for a broader audience?

To be honest, I didn't care for it, and I'm disappointed that DDL chose this as his last movie. It was slow and bizarre. And the fashions didn't even really impress me (what's the point of a period piece if the costumes are bland??)

I'm not really sure how it got an Oscar nom.

Outstanding. The best 2017 film I've seen yet. I will see it again at the theater soon.

Cinematography, music, script, editing, acting. And, you know, comparing it to the other 48 2017 films I've seen so far. It's a Paul Thomas Anderson film, so there was no doubt I would see this at the theater. And Daniel Day Lewis. Very few actors draw me to the theater. DDL was one of them.

Yes - I think I'll like it more than I did the Shape of Water but I have to convince my SO and he may think it'll be a bit girly, given the fashion angle of it. The storyline/premise is definitely different though so I think it sounds promising eve if it's not for everyone.

Please report back. I'd be interested in hearing what you think.

I have to preface any comment I make here by saying that I love love love Daniel Day Lewis.

Seriously...ever since I saw him in The Age of Innocence, my poor little heart felt hopelessly in love with him and his acting. Every movie he has ever made, I love...

That being said, my view is jaded. I saw Phantom Thread a few weeks ago and I rather liked it. It was interesting to hear him speak in a movie using his natural British accent, as most of his films in the past 2 decades have involved him adapting an alternative accent. Nevertheless, the movie is not a "girlie" movie in any way shape or form, in that it is not a romantic comedy and it is not your typical run of the mill love story with a happy ending. It's a serious drama that is over 2 hours long with excellent acting from all three of the primary characters. Just keep in mind that Paul Thomas Anderson directed one of DDL's other films (There Will Be Blood). So, the often long, drawn out feel of many scenes , are the same feelings one would have felt watching There Will Be Blood. Just my opinion..

I don't want to disclose anything in case others have not seen it. But I definitely think it's worth watching.

I disliked the movie. It was a twisted love story underlying the haute couture fashion industry. Acting was very good. Daniel day Lewis conveyed so much with a glance or the slghtest movement.

IMO it was a waste of his incredible talent and I hope he makes another last movie.

Gives me the idea that

if I run into a difficult person I will just feed him poisoned mushrooms
