I am looking for the name of an old war movie where from memory I think it is about 2 adventurous yankees go to an english RAF base wanting to fly in the war. There are not enough planes so the 2 yanks attach wings to their old cars and off they go.

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang had a flying car but I don't think that's the film for which you're looking.

Can you define "old" a little more clearly? As in, what era? British or American film? Is it a comedy or more of a fantasy/adventure film?

It would have to be about WW I (planes had advanced to much for it to be a scenario in WW II), so my guess would be an early 1930s film.
