Loved the first one. As a kid who grew up on Kaiju and Voltron these films always have appeal to me. Looks like the have a giant monster that is bigger then Godzilla in this one. I applaud that. With this type of film, they may as well go as big as possible.
This is not a judgment on a film, which I will not see until Tuesday, or a proclamation of doom. However, its success or failure will be a fascinating test case, as it is essentially the first big-budget sequel to a film that essentially flopped at the domestic box office. The $190 million “robots versus monsters” flick earned mixed reviews and grossed just $101.8m from a $37.285m debut weekend in mid-July 2013. However, it scored bigger overseas, including a then-huge $113 in China, which helped push the Warner Bros./Time Warner Inc. release to $411m worldwide.
Saw it today. Went in with low expectations and ended up really enjoying it. I knew it was about giant robots fighting giant monsters. Delivered. But there was an actual story to go along with it. Not a perfect one. But a fun popcorn movie nonetheless.
Haven't seen it yet, but from trailers it's almost like a live action movie of the netflix godzilla anime
