Some people go knowing it is awful and hoping it is awful.

I actually hate the SHARKNADO flicks. I don't understand setting out to make a bad movie and succeeding. Ick.

But I caught the last half hour of EMPIRE OF THE SHARKS yesterday on SyFy and had a blast. It was wonderfully awful.

I just saw this today and I thought it was pretty good summer movie fare. I might not have paid the 12 bucks for it, but I joined the AMC Stubs A-List so I'm not as picky as usual. The one funny thing I noticed was a tongue in cheek homage to the original Jaws. Remember the dog that got eaten in one of the early beach scenes? The guy is running around calling, "Here Pippen, here Pippen". Well, when a little dog falls off a boat in The Meg, you hear the lady calling "Here Pippen". Very clever.

Was that the one that was like Waterworld but with sharks ruling the waters? If so it was hilariously bad, from the caveman like costumes to the CGI sharks.

So many Syfy shark movies I cant keep up. They had giant sharks, shark octopuses, etc.

I had not realized that, although we certainly understood the Chinese woman yelling 'Pippin' .

Regardless, my wife and I went knowing it was a 'nothing to do' movie. We enjoyed it well enough. I did not think the 'star' was effective in gaining sympathy (like Bruce Willis in Die Hard). If he had been eaten by the 'meg' shark, we would not had cared.

It was an enjoyable 2 hour movie, but we had low expectations, which were met.

I typically look up critics and box office figures of movies after I see movie so I can keep an open mind.

It was too serious overall to be comedic, and just not executed well to be a good movie.

Itís a movie that I wish I had borrowed from my library instead seeing it in the theater.

I think the actors are good but their styles do not match.
If it was made by the US or by China alone, either way they could have put a better cast.

People must have really been bored or something.
Oh yes, the CGI shark was terrible, hard to believe its 2018!

Liked it fine enough...8 on a scale of 1-10. It wasn't bad, but not the best either.

I don't know why they deviated from the novel it's based on so much.

The opening scene in the novel alone... a tyrannosaurus rex, chasing some hadrosaurs into the ocean, and then being eaten by a megalodon itself? What a damn opening that would have been! It would have been the perfect nod to Jurassic World.

The film had the flimsy explosion of heated water excuse for the sharks' escape... the book had a much more plausible explanation for that pivotal plot point.

The lead character named Jonah? It foreshadows how he triumphs over the megaldon in the novel, and they opted for a weaker ending that had echos of 'Lost in Space (1998)' and 'Justice League,' which is not a good thing.

The novel explained the megalodon's physical appearance (white), the eyesight being a plot point... they realistically could not stay attached to the shark's hip the way they were in the film...

Bah. The book was MADE to be a film and they still messed it up.

Did the second Pippen get eaten?
