Duvall won the best actor Oscar for that role. He did his own singing.
It really is a beautiful movie with exceptional acting by all involved. There is a lot of understated grace throughout the movie.

I have it on DVD. I think I will watch it again in the next couple of days.

Good to know. He deserved it. I'll see if I can find it on Netflix to watch it again. I'm glad we can use this forum to promote this beautiful movie. I think almost anybody would love it.

Just rented and watched it again. It holds up after all these years. A lovely, worthwhile movie. A quiet masterpiece. Watch it if you can.

Duvall is such a great actor. That he can go from the gentle grace of TM to something like the Great Santini and be as believable is something else. Very few actors can pull off that range.

The Great Santini. Wow! Again a stunning performance by Duvall. I was raised in an Air Force family so the film was personal for me and I cried a lot while watching it. And, let's not forget Lonesome Dove.
I think I first noticed him while watching The Godfather.

If he ever turned in a bad performance... I didn't see it.

The guy is amazing!!

And besides, he reminds me of my dad...

They look like twins. I kid you not- although my dad was a bit slimmer all throughout his life.
