All these new formats are coming out and it's hard to keep up. At least VHS stayed on the market longer compared to DVD, blu ray, and now 4k.

I am wondering if 4k movies are worth buying especially since a lot of my favorite movies don't even have a 4k release. Some of my favorite movies like For A Few Dollars More, The Truman Show, Malcolm X, 12 Angry Men, etc, do not have 4k releases at all.

I read that Batman: The Animated Series, which I love is just getting a blu ray release this year, but no 4k release. I tried looking for Predator on 4k and no 4k.

So I am wondering if buying a 4k TV and disk player is even worth it, since hardly any of my favorite movies or TV shows have a 4k release.

What do you think?

I have a 4K projector and a 10-foot screen and I am quite happy with it. I don't have any experience to know if is worth it with a regular size TV.

There is a lot of 4K material available for streaming from Netflix and Amazon. I rent 4K Blu-rays from here: 4K UHD Blu-ray

It might be a long time before many old classics are available in 4K. Things like Lawerence of Arabia and 2001: A Space Odyssey probably will, but more obscure movies maybe never.

Okay thanks. I saw E.T. on sale in 4K, but when I want to buy movies like The Road Warrior or Predator for example, no 4K releases can be found. If 4K is so good, where are all the 4K movies?

Maybe people are tired of format changes, of having to buy the same thing over and over again.

I don't know if that is true or not....but it sure as heck bugs me.

Patience Young Grasshopper. It took years for many older movies with a limited market to be available on DVD. Expect the same for 4K.

Yes but I thought that movies that I wanted on 4K like The Road Warrior and Terminator 2 were massive hits. Aren't movies like that bigger hits to be more than a limited market? So why wouldn't a massive hit be released on 4k?

Just get a game console and 4K TV, the PS4 can play 4K Bluray UHD. BTW, older movies are all 2k if it's reel to digital conversion. Recent stuff is shot at 4k. If you watch old movies in 4k, it's not really true 4k. They simply digitally upscale the picture quality to 4k by filling in pixels. The results is the video looks a bit washed out compared to a video shot natively and captured at 4k.

Okay thanks. By 2k do you mean 2160p?
