Hmmm. That thing that I am wondering about is why do they keep making sequels to this franchise which keeps underperforming?

Quote:
With an estimated $24 million, 20th Century Fox's The Predator took the weekend's #1 spot, but the film has little to celebrate. Debuting in 4,037 theaters, the film's opening is the worst for a live-action film opening in over 4,000 locations, unseating The Mummy, which previously held the distinction after its $31.6 million opening in 4,035 theaters last summer. The opening currently falls short of even 2010's Predators which opened with $24.76 million in just 2,669 locations. That film went on to gross just over $52 million.

The Predator received a disappointing "C+" CinemaScore from opening day audiences. Weekend crowds were 62% male with 66% of the audience coming in 25 years of age or older. These are the exact same demos Alien: Covenant saw last year, and should The Predator deliver a similar 2.05x multiplier we're looking at a domestic run just shy of $50 million.

Compare all six Predator films side-by-side!

Quote:
Predator 2 - $30,669,413

Predator - $59,735,548

Alien Vs. Predator - $80,282,231 (And this one probably got help because of the "Alien" name.)

Aliens Vs. Predator - Requiem - $41,797,066 (Although, apparently, the excitement from the "Alien" name didn't last.)

Predators - $52,000,688

So is it the merchandising or perhaps the video games that keep making money?

Just saw this. This movie is sooo bad . Loved first and second predator and even liked first AVP. But ive almost left theater. Only few things i liked (SPOILERS):
Music
Exploring a bit of Predators world (genetical engineering)
Few Thomas Jane quotes

Almost everything else was that bad that ive thought it was a parody. And that final scene on ship

Can someone who saw the movie just write a synopsis of the movie as a spoiler? I have no intention of watching it but based on some responses it is a bad movie.

It seemed pretty dumb to me, like they were trying too hard to insert something funny, almost on the level of Beavis and Butthead dumb.

I can't possibly sum it up here. I have seen some good synopsis videos listed online you could watch in 2 mins.

It's really not a bad movie. It's not a reboot or even a continuation of previous Predator movies, which may be what is tripping some up.

For one thing, it's set in the suburbs, with a dad and his son as the main characters (besides the Predators). The ensemble cast of crazy soldiers who make up the impromptu unit are hilarious, and Sterling K Brown is a little too good as a villain.

You also learn a little more about the Predators and their motivations. With any movie about space creatures, you have to suspend your disbelief a little so you can be entertained. As you can tell from this thread, that is not easy for some people to do.

There are plenty of fantasy and sci fi movies that I enjoy, but The Predator made absolutely no sense.

Spoiler
How can Olivia Munn run as fast as a predator? And if she is such a super human, why only handcuff one arm to the chair when she was being held hostage in the barn? At least if she was a super human, it would explain how she ended up at the final battle after watching the ship fly away.

If the predator came to Earth to save humanity, why was he killing every human he came in contact with? And its not like he was only killed those he felt threatened by, he came out of the ship ready to hunt and kill.

How did they even determine the predator's motivations? Considering the amount of people killed, how did they conclude he was there to save earth?

Why was Quinn being transported with "the loonies"? The government knows he's not crazy, they were bringing him in to ask more questions about the predator. Wouldn't it make more sense to isolate him so he couldn't tell more people about the alien he saw?

What was even up with Sterling's character? One minute he wants to study the predator, then he wants to kill anyone who knows about the predator, then he's back to wanting everyone to work as a team?

The kid is freaked out by a fire alarm and a dog barking (consistent with reality, yes), but blowing up a house and all the gun fire was perfectly fine?

Oh and the alien dog, why did a point blank shot to the head basically turn it into a golden retriever?

They placed a giant codpiece on the Predator. This virtually guarantees a trashy movie.

Anytime they attempt to "sexualize" a movie, it is almost a guarantee that only teen-agers will be satisfied.

Exceptions please?

Though it is certainly true that some of our biggest box office stars have been very muscular. Such as The Rock, Stallone, and Schwarzenegger. Wonder Woman is sexy but not in a tawdry way. Apparently a fine line is not to be crossed.

Female mega-stars are absolutely not allowed to be balloon breasted. Dolly Parton was never a cinematic mega-star.

If one see's a bikini or cleavage on the movie promo, run for the hills. Unfortunately I gained this knowledge via experience.

My dream Predator movie is them going up against Aliens. Two monsters going at it and no damn stupid humans involved. All out mass killing between these two Apex Killers.
