Ha. I watched 'Beautiful Girls' last night. Once again, Natalie Portman is in love with an older man. They don't sexualize her at all, but the guy seriously considers waiting for her to be 18 so they can be together.

I like that movie. I think saying Timothy Hutton's character "seriously considers" waiting for her to grow up would be overstating the case. He is definitely tempted, but he realizes that would be living in the past and exercising an adolescent fantasy when he has a healthy adult relationship already. The whole point of that movie is growing up and choosing to be an adult. Some succeed. Some fail.

But that is a good movie, and Natalie Portman is great in it. It's also one of Matt Dillon's best roles.

"You give your girl a **** colored diamond? Man, you been eatin' retard sandwiches."

---

"I was jealous of a little kid on a bike, because he gets to be her age, and I'm this vile old man. Like that guy, what's-his-name..."

"Roman Polanski?"

---

"No, Paul is not my friend. He lives in my house. I got cockroaches, I got termites... I got Paul."

Another good example is the recent comedy "the fight', Its about a shy teacher who mistakenly offends a street tough gym teacher, played by Ice cube, and he challenges him to meet and fight later in the day. There is another teacher that everyone sort of jokes about how he seduces and sleeps with female students (this is high school). References to this are thru out the movie, very lighthearted/ joking depiction, everyone just laughs and rolls their eyes at what this teacher is known for.

Kind of subtle, but very powerful too.

I always thought it would be a good idea for a movie to be like Double Indemnity, where you have a femme fatale, or even homme fatale, who seduces someone into being part of a murder scheme, but the new spin on it would be a teacher seducing a student into such a scheme, or vice versa.

But are there any movies where that happens?

And he made a comment on the difference between when a man (or woman) who thinks about doing something and actually does something. And he said, "If every man who ever saw a girl under the age of 18 and thought about sex with her was in jail, half the male population of the United States would be in prison.

The one film that just turned me off that related to that topic was "American Beauty" with Kevin Spacey. I used to like Spacey a lot, so I went to the film without even knowing what it was about. Yuck. I was embarrassed to have even gone to the movie.
The only characters in American Beauty who were not creepy on some level were the gay neighbors. It's a great movie for that time period, depicting fractured, sterile suburban lives devoid of meaning. Lester wasn't a pedo, he was a lost and broken man. He played that part very well. Angela wasn't really a hot nympho, she was a confused insecure young girl.

Spacey wouldn't be into a girl anyway.

As to men IRL being attracted to teenage girls, I would say more than half for sure.

What was the movie a few years back that got a good amount of controversy.. A 12 year old boy supposedly came back as the reincarnation of the woman's husband.. And there was a bath scene between them? I'm thinking it was Breathe or something like that?

Birth.. That was it. I never watched it. But I recall there being a ton of screaming about that movie.

And.. Apt Pupil, I think? that was less what was shown and more about the filming of the locker room shower scene, apparently Bryan Singer 'forced' teens to perform nude.. With the smoke around him, there might be some fire on this one.
I never watched this one, either, but from the descriptions I read.. Nothing sexual about it in the film itself.

What's the one on Netflix now that's stirring up all the child porn controversy? Desire? I saw the scene online in an article talking about it, and I thought it was a big to-do about nothing compared to some other foreign movies I've seen. If "Pretty Baby" isn't considered porn, there's no way this movie would be.
