Redoing what is considered an absolute masterpiece is very much taking a chance.

the song that was supposed to show Gaga's character as a complete sellout ("Why did you do that?", IIRC) still actually kinda works.
Well yeah, it was still supposed to be a good song that would do well on the charts. The problem with the song is that it wasn't like her earlier songs "Shallow" or "Always Remember Us This Way"... Jack didn't see it as having any depth or telling the story that Ally wanted to tell her fans. It was just a fun pop song.

I saw it. It was pretty good, but I felt that Bradley Cooper's character...

SPOILER

...was playing a stereotyped, cliched rock musician who is addicted to drugs, which leads to his own demise, which we have seen before in other movies about musicians.

I wasn't a Lady GaGa fan until I watched the documentary about her called Five Foot Two on Netflix. Then I wanted to adopt her and take care of her.

I'm a middle-aged mom and I mean take care of her in a nurturing, parental way.

^^^^this even though she is a strong and impressive grownup woman in her own right.

And I loved the movie. Very nicely updated.

Ever since her stint on "American Horror Story" she has been reinventing herself (she credits a lot to what she learned doing that show). She still works the sex appeal but has really toned down a lot relying on her talent alone

Interesting note about the movie.

Anyone who has seen Gaga's documentary knows she had a very close friend (her best friend) Sonja Durham suffering from cancer. Sonja ultimately died. On the day she died Gaga was supposed to perform (bear with me I havet seen the movie yet) the scene where she sings a ballad at the Shrine Auditorium(?). Upon hearing this Bradley Cooper sent her home and was going to stop production for a day or two to let her grieve for her friend. Gaga insisted on doing the performance. From what I understand nailed it in one take.
