Very few people I know in real life are smokers--I'd need less than one hand to count them.

All the tobacco companies are doing great, none of them are remotely close to bankruptcy...that means there are a LOT of smokers out there.

If some of the statistics Ive seen were accurate, the tobacco companies would be barely hanging on by a thread.

Everything is bad for us (or someone), if you want to break it down... I mean, we can't even have peanuts on airplanes anymore! Meanwhile, I still get assaulted by flowers at the entrance to every grocery store. That gives ME an allergy/asthma attack, but apparently I'm not as important as those who can't handle peanuts or smoke. Selective concern, to say the least.

Well, that is the people you personally know. I am still surprised to see ashtrays anywhere and yet I do. And people using them (outside).

For whatever reason I was surprised at the number of people rushing the door for a cig after a really long HOA meeting. Because I have this idea that 'no one smokes anymore' but they do. It was like 5, but that was out of only 25 people. The younger person (about 30) surprised me the most. I thought the younger people especially at least vaped instead.

But look in any convenience store. Regular cigarettes are still flying off the shelves.

These personal anecdotes (what you have seen or believe to be true) are not really useful. Smoking amounts vary by age, region, and a hundred other things. You must go by the stats, because nothing else will be reliable. (This is why anecdotal evidence is seen as a fallacy.)

But I think the reason why the stats seem so low, is that a lot of people are embarrassed to admit that they smoke, so they lie, and that skews the stats to a falsehood possibly. Cause I feel like it's more like 30% and not below 20%.

I still see TV and movie characters smoking. Not as many as several decades ago, but the habit is definitely not absent these days.

Gee, that's all Rachel Weisz does is smoke in Disobedience! Just out last month, about 'now'...not the 50s or anything.

But, as I keep saying, ironpony, what you "feel like" is the truth won't/can't stand up, because you only see what you see, in your own limited perspective. Look, I work at the VA, and probably a majority of Veterans smoke. But I don't jump from that to say that "the stats must be wrong." Any individual's perspective is just that.
