We are having an extended heat wave here. Hot with 80% humidity. It looks like we are stuck in this heat wave through most of August

So I have been getting DVDs from the library (I cut the cable cord years ago) so I can watch movies with snow and cold.

Can you recommend some movies and TV series with snow and cold I haven't seen recently?

Here's what I've seen and happily recommend:
The Edge with Anthony Hopkins
Mystery Alaska with Russell Crowe
The Snowman based on book by Jo Nesbo
Day After Tomorrow with Dennis Quaid
Shackleton about the South Pole explorer
Bourne Legacy - the one with Jeremy Renner
Dr Zhivago with Omar Sharif
Snow Falling on Cedars - set in the San Juan Islands, PacNW
Headhunters - based on book by Jo Nesbo
Men with Brooms - Canadian with Paul Gross
Parts of Due South TV series with Paul Gross
The Bridge TV series - the one set in Sweden
Shetland TV series - set on island north of Scotland
Girl with the Dragon Tattoo movie series - Swedish version
Lilyhammer - NYC mobster gets witness protection in Norway

(No children's movies, please.)

Thanks for your help!

The Day After Tomorrow is a great frozen movie.
Ice Station Zebra
K19 The Widowmaker
Titanic
The Thing
Groundhog Day
Star Wars - The Empire Strikes Back (Hoth ice planet, cryogenic freezing of Solo)
Fargo
Call Of The Wild
The Donner Party
Alive

Any number of Christmas movies feature snow and cold, and It's a Wonderful Life even had a plunge into an icy river. Rudolf The Rednosed Reindeer is a must with the Winter Warlock monster, a true polar expedition which includes an iceberg trip to the island of misfit toys.

Everest (movie, true story...one of my favourites)

The Terror (AMC mini-series; not sure if you can get it, but it's well worth watching)

Frozen (not the animated Disney movie, but a 2010 dark thriller about three people stuck on a ski-lift, no one knows they're there, and wolves are circling below them)

The Shining (movie)

A Simple Plan (movie)

Christmas Vacation (movie)

Eight Below (movie)

Dead Snow (movie, and not everyone's cuppa tea...it's about killer Nazi zombies)

Krampus (movie, and again, not everyone's pref...based upon a mythological European monster who drags those who have lost their Christmas spirit to the underworld...but my son loves this one )

Upon A Midnight Clear

The Heroes of Telemark (lots of snow and heavy water)

Defiance (Ukrainian woods, Jews fighting Nazi's in the cold)

Death Hunt was awesome, one of the better Lee Marvin movies, good mention from Mark S, but images a little oversized dude, lol.

The Shining was a frozen treat, but still not as cold as Day After Tomorrow, you can't get any colder than that.

Well, maybe you can, like getting sucked out of an airlock in deep space, but where's the fun in that? Absolute zero fun, because people can't do any acting in those kind of temperatures, they freeze too quick.

Apollo 13 (as I said, it gets cold up there)

The Deep (it gets cold down there too)

Heartland (Rip Torn, featuring an Wyoming winter)

How about a nice documentary about the Franklin Expedition or better yet, one about the man who completed the northwest passage, and later went on to the South Pole, the greatest arctic explorer of all time, Roald Amundsen.

We cut cable 4 years ago and also get all our movies from the library.

Check out Winters Bone. Not sure if there's a lot of snow but it's still very cold and will give that atmosphere and setting.
