It’s a guy thing, like the show Jacka** is a guy thing and even History Channel and Military Channel are guy things, I sit there feeling like I’m back in school lol. I don’t know any marriage can survive one TV! OP hold onto that girl, lol.
What about "Airplane!"
I got my son to watch it when he was a teen, and he practically had a stroke laughing, even though he wasn't getting a lot of the 70s period jokes. My wife and daughter can't stand it.
Physical comedy? I agree, I think only Lucille Ball did that kind of thing. I never got Jerry Lewis at all. Jim Carrey made me laugh in a few movies. Lucy was very good at physical comedy, but only on tv, not in her movies.
I mentioned that before. I think the factor is that Lucille Ball had firm creative control of her television series, but not the movies.
IOW, I'm guessing she herself would have rather done more physical comedy.

I don't think Airplane! is in the same genre as The Three Stooges.
I can't stand Stooges and the slapstick humor.
Airplane! is funny in a silly way, with some slapstick but it's also quotable (beyond "nyuk, nyuk, nyuk") and clever at times.
Not to mention, Airplane! was mocking the the "Airport" movies (and other similar movies popular at the time - the genre name escapes me at the moment).

I think they were just referred to as disaster movies. Poseidon adventure, airport, the towering inferno, etc.
