In case the name doesn't ring a bell, he was a screenwriter, possibly the most famous living screenwriter, having written such films as Butch Cassidy, All the President's Men, and Marathon Man. He was also a novelist, and although I guess his best-known book was Princess Bride, my favorite is Your Turn to Curtsey. And also known for his famous line about Hollywood, "No one knows anything."
Very sad. I just finished writing my 5th screenplay of the year on Friday, kind of odd timing, as William Goldman is a big inspiration and a legend. Princess Bride has always been a favorite and of course Butch Cassidy and Misery too. I just read Adventures in the Screen Trade this year, too. We lost a real legend :/
