'Splash.'
I'm not a fan of his roles in 'Big' or 'Gump', to me he didn't pull either role off believably. I thought the actor playing Bubba was a much more believable dimwit. I'm sure I'm in the minority on that considering his academy award trophy.

His TV work isn't too shabby either.

Fun, sweet, hits all the right notes. Not great but very good.

Philadelphia
An important film in 1993.

Apollo 13
Not bad, but given the result why not just watch a documentary?

Forrest Gump
Over-wrought but fairly entertaining.

Cast Away
An engaging tale, with an interesting narrative choice and an equally-interesting production. Spoiled by some mediocre casting and the mostly uninteresting off-island parts.

Everything else? A lot of it can entertain but nothing all that memorable. Hanks almost always delivers solid acting performances but they never approach transcendence.

The minute I saw your post I thought "Philadelphia". I also love him in "The Money Pit". and "The Green Mile". My three favorite Tom Hanks movies.
I know just about everyone in here is going to say Forrest, but Forrest Gump knocked out The Shawshank Redemption from winning the Oscar, and I would much rather watch Shawshank than Gump. Besides, porno movies did all kinds of nasty wordplay to Gump.

"Splash" is one of my favorites. Candy and Eugene Levy were hilarious. Some great lines from that movie. And having Darryl Hannah as a mermaid didn't hurt.
