Sylvester Stallone Is out for Vengeance in RAMBO: LAST BLOOD Teaser
"I want them to know that death is coming, and there's nothing they can do to stop it."
Lionsgate has released the first teaser trailer for Rambo: Last Blood. The film is set to hit theaters on September 20, 2019.
Almost four decades after he drew first blood, Sylvester Stallone is back as one of the greatest action heroes of all time, John Rambo. Now, Rambo must confront his past and unearth his ruthless combat skills to exact revenge in a final mission. A deadly journey of vengeance, Rambo: Last Blood marks the last chapter of the legendary series.
In addition to Sylvester Stallone, the movie also stars Paz Vega, Sergio Peris-Mencheta, Adrianna Barraza, Yvette Monreal, Genie Kim aka Yenah Han, Joaquin Cosio, and Oscar Jaenada.
Rambo: Last Blood will be the fifth installment in the Rambo franchise, following the release of First Blood (1982), Rambo: First Blood Part II (1985), Rambo III (1988), and Rambo (2008). The first three films are now available for purchase on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray.
Though star Sylvester Stallone served as director on the series' previous installment, Adrian Grunberg (Get the Gringo) is on board to helm this entry, working from a script written by Stallone and Matthew Cirulnick based on characters created by David Morrell. The film is a Millennium Media Balboa Productions and Templeton Media production, in association with Campbell Grobman Films and Dadi Film (HK) Limited, and is presented by Lionsgate in association with Millennium Media.
Too many syllables. They wanted go with RAMBO: MID BLOOD, but the focus groups at the studio said it didn't translate well into the Asian market because in some languages "mid" and "half" are the same thing (as in Halfblood Prince), and they were afraid people might think it was a Rambo / Harry Potter team-up.
I don't know that a Harry Potter / Rambo team up would work, but it does occur to me that it is a tragedy of film history that Sylvester Stallone and Maggie Smith never made a movie together.
Seems to certainly be the last one. He retired Rocky already. The film looks gritty like Logan with a somber story and a hero going away, either riding off into the sunset or into death.
Next year there will probably be a reboot with a Rambo "pre-quel" that shows him growing up and service in Vietnam.
This could very well happen. As much as I like Stallone and Rambo, I hope this does not get filmed. First Blood was extremely well done. We got brief flashes of Rambos time in Vietnam. More effective though was his emotional outburst when with the general and surrounded by police. His vivid description of his friend getting blown up was jarring.
My point is the imagination of what happened to Rambo is enough. To create another action film going that far back takes away from the character. Even though the war has still not ended for Rambo, all things come to an end regardless. I think this should be it for the character. It's time. The old movies will still be watched for years to come. Trying to keep going is tacky, and Hollywood does this too much as it is.
