Some definite classics there. It's great to see someone giving The Wicker Man the credit it so rightly deserves. Realistic, gritty, and such a bleak ending! I was highly offended by the remake with Nicolas Cage. That was garbage.

Fatal Attraction
The Shining ( original version )

So Fatal Attraction is a good thriller. Psycho and The Silence of the Lambs are masterpieces of this genre. So is JAWS.
Kubrick's version of The Shining is almost a thriller. One could make the argument that the poor family simply went up to that hotel and went barkin' nuts. Except for the last scene. The last scene is the only definitive proof of supernatural goings-on. And yeah, The Shining is a masterpiece.
Although I will confess I like the made-for-TV version too. Kubrick's is a masterpiece of cinema. But the TV version is a better story.
ALIEN is a GREAT horror film. One of my favorites.
Carrie is very dated now, but still very, very good.
Storm of the Century is great.

Oh yeah I forgot about that one. A classic psychological thriller! I was younger when that came out and I remember foregoing many babysitting jobs right after seeing it. It was kind of like staying out of the water after "Jaws", another great classic!

Rosemary's baby
The Haunting (original)
Amityville Horror (original)
All those great Hitchcock classics!
The House on Haunted Hill
The Fog (original)
Sleepaway camp ( kind of gory, but amazing ending)
A lot of these movies that are being remade (Wicker man, The Fog, etc.) are so great, but the remakes are a disgrace. You should check out the originals!

OOOOh! The original Amityville Horror. Didn't sleep for weeks! I wish they never admitted it was a hoax It was fun to believe, maybe, just maybe.

It was really scary, my dad actually took me to the house... not inside of course. It's creepy how those windows look like eyes!
That made me think of a couple others that totally scared the crap out of me:
Carrie
Twilight Zone the movie (I like the one with Shatner, but the Lithgow one is great too)
Se7en is also a really good movie, some gory stuff, but worth it.

I really enjoyed Se7en too. The plot was something out of the ordinary. I really hated the ending though, it was just too much for me.

Maybe someone here can help me?
I saw a horror film years ago that just gave me the creeps. A nun was posted in the top of of a house, sitting in a window, and the premise was that she guarded the gates to Hell? Of course, the person in that position had to stay there until he/she/somebody provided a replacement, and that was the creepy part -- watching this innocent young women getting lured into the position.
Anyone ever catch this? Can you recall the name of the film?
I generally prefer horror movies that are more far-fetched than real. That way, I can dismiss them. The ones that un-nerve me, to no end, are those that are plausible, and I find myself lying in bed, scared-to-death, and thinking, "what if. . .?" I snuggle over to my husband's side of the bed, who sleeps closest to the bedroom door anyway. I told him if the Bad Guy comes in, he'll go after him first, and I stand a chance of getting away.
Nothing like love, is there?

I looked it up, and I found one that came close, though I don't know if it is. The movie is called Desecration. It was made in 1999.
Does that help?
