Zulu. Best battle scene ever filmed. The last half of the movie is a battle scene, but the pacing is perfect. It never once gets tedious or boring. And you're also kind of rooting for both sides to win, because they're so frickin cool.

Honorable mention to:

Saving Private Ryan
Apocalypse Now
Lawrence of Arabia
Bridge on the River Kwai
Schindler’s List
Grave of the Fireflies

Saving Private Ryan is hands down the best war film.

South Pacific, I was in grade school when it came out. Was when I first knew I wanted to join the Army.

Has also been 30 Seconds Over Tokyo and Bridge Over the River Kwai and The Great Escape

Mark S. beat me to it! There has never been a war film that has approached the multi-faceted greatness evidenced in Zulu, IMHO.

It works on every level and also has one of the most stirring musical scores ever composed.

I've lost count of the number of times I've watched it, and I always catch some little nuance that didn't strike me before.

Apocolypse Now
Full Metal Jacket
HBO's "Band of Brothers" mini-series
Platoon
Glory
Saving Private Ryan (the first 20 minutes depicting the Normandy Beach invasion is the most graphic and realistic 20 minutes you'll ever see on any war movie, period!)
Tropic Thunder (great satire)
Patton (what a tool that guy was!)
Coming Home (does this count?)
The Hurt Locker

My all time favorite war movie type thing is Band of Brothers.
Others that I've enjoyed are Glory, Saving Private Ryan, and The Dirty Dozen. War movies aren't necessarily my favorite genre - but they are the hubby's so I've seen a whole bunch of them!
