Saw it yesterday - I thought it kinda petered out at the end. I also found Mark Wahlberg a little wooden throughout.

My husband hated it. I thought it was ok but definitely the weakest of M. Night Shyamalan's films.

I think I'm the only one on the planet that liked "The Village" a few years ago. It had a great ending.

I love The Village! The Sixth Sense was M. Night Shyamalan's tour de force but I like all his films, even The Happening.

I loved it!
Just saw "The Happening" (literally 20 minutes ago). I don't even know what to say, it really was that depressing. Not necessarily bad but with all the negative things going on in the world, I had wished for a bit more positive movie.

I'm still waiting for someone to feel about this movie like I did:
Kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time
The ending wrapped up the story -it was a "Happening" --an unexplained phenomena! This is not so out of this world that it won't happen! The talk about bees in the beginning --yes...that as well is "A Happening"....and when something unexplainable does happen --will we immediately blame it on "Terrorist" like we blame everything else? The Great Big Boogieman? Can we accept that we don't know everything and that tomorrow we could totally lose control of our lives and of nature? This movie is not unlike The Day After Tomorrow in that one day something unexpected just occurs and life as we know it ends...
The positive thing about this movie was that The Happening was only for 24 hours.....(or so we thought)....and that procreation was a continuing cycle....
Though the child lost both her parents in a 24 hour period....her life continued with a new loving couple who came to terms, because of this experience, with the emptiness they had had in their relationship.
I just think this movie is getting a bad rap because people are expecting the usual "Scare me and tie it up perfectly" movie. This one makes you 'think'...about nature, government, ourselves.
M Knight is a thinking man's director. He never fails to amaze me. So many people hated Signs and The Lady in the Water and The Village...and now The Happening.....and all these movies sent such a powerful message to me about people and life....
I guess I just see more to life and like the little slices he presents....
hopefully he will continue to make more and more movies --but with all the negetivity always surrounding these great masterpieces......God only knows what might happen to his career....perhaps he's just too damned intelligent for Hollywood!

I didn't expect a boogie-man, scare me movie, and I have no problem with ambiguous endings, in fact I think the ending wasn't ambiguous at all, it was wrapped up and tied with a little bow - maybe I'm not a "thinking man" but I'm not crazy about gratuitous gore (the zoo), bad acting, and (speaking of the wrapping and bow) having everything laid out for me by a background TV interview.
I loved Unbreakable and Signs and liked The Village and Sixth Sense a lot. However, I'm not willing to give a director a break because I've liked some of his previous work. Hitchcock put out a few stinkers and, IMHO, he's the greatest genius of the medium.
