I'm not a big movie person in general, but most of the one's I do enjoy are older one's. And this is one of them that I truly enjoy, anyone else a fan of this film?
First off it's a great cast, especially at the time it was released. Jack Lemmon, Jane Fonda, Michael Douglas, and Wilford Brimley just to name a few. And they all played their parts extremely well in this film, especially Jack Lemmon. You really could sense what his character was going through, and how he was feeling.
When I first saw it I never expected the ending it turned out to be, I won't ruin it by talking to much about the ending in case anyone hasn't seen the film. All around though I feel this is a great film and is never really outdated as the story can still exist in 2008, but I hope it never does.
Lemmon and Fonda were the film. Tour de force jobs by both of them. Not to derail the topic, but I've always enjoyed Jane Fonda's acting. She has a history of not making smart personal decisions, and being too easily led by her current fascinations, but the development of her acting skills over the years has been as much a joy to see as Peter Fonda's has been a disappointment. Lemmon has always been good, from what I have watched of his work.
Even though parts of the plot-line were a bit hokey, and one scene always reminded me of an overloaded blender, the story has held up well.

Thanks for the reminder. I remember packing up my girlfriend and all her cages and an aquarium for her menagerie in my station wagon, as we prepared to leave town (Fairfax Virginia outside of Washington DC) as the scary developments at Three Mile Island Pennsylvania (not that far away) were being revealed. Just went on the Netflix cue

That must have been frightening.
It's almost unreal to think that a movie like The China Syndrome comes out and pretty much predicts what might happen shortly after. I certainly hope nothing like Three Mile Island ever happens again.
