Um, Sockeye, ET did not win Best Picture. It won a couple Oscars, but not for Best Picture. That honor went to Ghandi.
Spielberg movies do tend to be on the sentimental side. I actually liked ET, but I can understand how some people might see it as being manipulative.

Agreed...whenever I watch a 'blockbuster' like SIL, I always think of what it would been like to produce it 50 or 60 years before.
Paltrow and Affleck were especially hideous in that...I kept wanting to see Olivia de Havilland or Vivien Leigh in the lead role...*sigh*
Look up Overrated in the dictionary, and Gwyneth's picture will be there, but it will alongside many of the other contemporary actresses.
Lucky for them they had Dame Judi to prop them up...Notes on a Scandal, now that was a movie that stuck to my ribs...

How right you are!! When I think of Gwyn, I can't help but think the same as with Nick Cage (Oh, there's Nick Cage playing Nick Cage in so and so) Same with Keanu!

j-bug Oh, but then I realize I'd probably be jadybug playing jadybug, too if I was bit by the acting bug and put into films-he!he! Ha!

I live in a glass house BTW...

I'd say Forrest Gump. I don't dislike it, but it wasn't that good.
