I own it on VHS and actually watched it several months ago. It's good! They made the best and innovative use of the early 80's technology available to them. It's a visual treat. I love those cycle races. The story still works too.

Okay, I just watched Tron again for the first time since back in '82 when it was in the theaters. It held up pretty well for me.
The visuals, the techie stuff feels so ahead of its time (for back then.)
Interestingly, my younger son (19) was not that taken with it. He likes a lot of the older movies that I get him to watch, but this one did not *wow* him.
I watched the trailer again--the lightcycles in Tron2 look really cool.

First movie was really great... and actually hold up pretty well if you see it today. I'm psyched about a sequel. With today's technology and that universe... loads of potential!

I love the cheer that arises from the audience when the light cycle appears, and the one that comes when Jeff Bridges appears on the screen.

John Lasseter is spearheading this production. He saw some of the early work on Tron when he was a young animator at Disney and was so inspired by the CGI work that he eventually founded Pixar. Now he's the creative head at Disney. The master story teller from Pixar is guiding the story of the new Tron movie.

A little fun from the 1982 version

YouTube - Tron Lightbike Scene

YouTube - Tron Discs

A lot of surprising details about this film at the Tron Wiki page

I like the item that the graphics were done "the fastest PDP-10 ever made and the only one of its kind"

I was a projectionist in my local theater when Tron came out. I thought it was so cool! I think I've seen it at least 25-30 times. I would love to see a new one with todays CGI. Should be mind blowing.

As for Logan's Run, I have it on DVD and it always gives me a thrill. Fun film when it came out. That's another that would be worthy of a remake with the right producer/director. I hope they stick with the original story as closely as possible.
