I'd say both of those. I'd add:

Willie Nelson in Wag The Dog.

Sting in Brimstone & Treacle.

Sting in Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels.

Ice Cube in Anaconda and Barber Shop.

Will Smith in Men In Black.

I thought Coppola's Dracula was terrible, but Tom Waits was great as Renfield.

David Bowie in The Prestige.

Keith Richards. More famous as a guitar player than a singer, but he was great in the third Pirates movie.

Although critics didn't like it, I liked Neil Diamond in The Jazz Singer in 1980. The music really contributed to the movie.

Sorry, Will Smith is a famous actor....if he'd kept with rap he'd be long gone by now.

My suggestions....
Aretha Franklin - Blues Brothers
Cher was good in a couple movies
Bette Midler - tons of movies
Alanis Morissette - Dogma....just for a short bit but made the movie.

True. But it wasn't true at the time he made Men In Black.

I like many of the films of Frank Sinatra. He was a great actor as well as singer
Just a few...
The Manchurian Candidate (1962)
Von Ryan's Express (1965)
Tony Rome (1967)
The First Deadly Sin (1980)

And I loved Barbra Streisand before she became such an annoying political person.
Just a few...
Funny Girl (1968)
Hello, Dolly! (1969)
The Owl and the Pussycat (1970)
The Way We Were (1973)
Yentl (1983)
